Our Mission and Vision

Our Mission:

At Emmanuel Community School, we believe that the purpose of education is to empower and nurture every child to thrive and become the individuals God created them to be.

We strive to provide an environment where each student can experience the fullness of life, guided by Christian teachings and enriched by a strong Christian presence in mind, body and heart.

Our Vision:

A Community School serving the heart of Walthamstow guided by Christian teachings and principles.

Our Core Values

Our five core values underpin our work with the children. They are explored during assemblies and form a key part of our behaviour policy:

LOVE

Play together, be a friend, from your heart

JUSTICE

Be fair

COURAGE

Be brave, don't be scared

TRUTHFULNESS

Tell the truth, don't tell lies

FORGIVENESS

be friends again when someone says sorry, be kind

The school sees its provision for pupils in the area of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as of paramount importance.

As part of its provision in this area, the school promotes the fundamental British values of:

Our Story

The Emmanuel School Trust was established and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in May 2011.

Following a successful bid to the Department for Education, the Trust opened the first Free School in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

Emmanuel Community School (ECS) opened to new students in September 2012 in temporary premises (Emmanuel Christian Centre, Walthamstow) before moving to its permanent site, The Drive, in Walthamstow, a year later.

ECS was assessed by OFSTED as “A good school with outstanding Leadership” in 2014 and subsequently confirmed as “Good” in 2018.

In 2017, an inspection of the school’s distinctiveness as a Christian school (SIAMS section 48) rated it as ‘Outstanding in ALL areas.’

Our history is documented in the book, ‘Stepping Out On The Promise: From Vision to Reality: A journey towards excellent education in a Christian context’, available to purchase on Amazon here.
